New Books, New Readers

Do you want to improve your reading skills? Do you have a child or grandchild that you would like to read to? Would you like to meet other people and discuss what you are reading?

If so, join us for our New Books, New Readers program. This is a “humanities based book discussion program for adults who are new readers OR who are not in the habit of reading. It opens the world of books and ideas through literature that is accessible and thought-provoking, encouraging reading as an enjoyable lifelong personal family activity.”

Participants learn to love reading when they’re engaged in discussion centered on humanities themes — themes that relate to their lives. They are given a copy of every book in the series to keep and are encouraged to share their enjoyment with family and friends.

New Books, New Readers is meant for adults of every age, from the lowest literacy levels to those involved in GED preparation. Please join us on Monday mornings for the group.

New College Prep Class For Adults!

Are you ready for college but need that last minute push? Would you like to explore the job options available to you? Do you need pointers on writing or improvement in algebra or do your Accuplacer scores need to be improved so that you may start college in the fall?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you should join us for our new College Transitions class! This grant funded, intensive 14 week course can bridge the gap between you and college. Improve your writing, reading and math to college levels. Discover strategies to improve your technology skills, time management and study skills.

In addition, students will complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid), explore career options, tour local community colleges and universities, research scholarship opportunities and prepare for college entrance exams such as the Accuplacer. Representatives from the Community College and the University of Maine System will be available to answer any questions. One college credit may be earned when students meet the standards of the class.

This class is offered free of charge. We would also like to extend a special invitation to include all of our Veterans who are preparing to return to college. This class is for you!
